What is lagos life?

Lagos Life is a free multiplayer life-simulation browser game set in Lagos, Nigeria. It was created by UK-based Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen (also known as Eliy or Isakaba) and his five-person team Vatar, and launched on 1 October 2026 — Nigeria's Independence Day. It went viral almost immediately: the game's own dashboard reported 1 million players in 3 days and more than 2 million users within the first week (figures are self-reported and not independently audited).

It plays like The Sims: you create a character, find a job, earn and spend virtual naira, pay rent every Saturday, and manage six needs — hunger, energy, fun, social, hygiene and bladder. The map is built from real Lagos locations such as Quilox, Balogun Market, Freedom Park, The Palms, Eko Hotels, New Afrika Shrine, Amala Shitta and UNILAG, and you share the world and chat live with other real players.

Every new life starts with a birth draw called Nepo vs Lapo. A Nepo starts with over 500,000 naira, lives in Lekki and has dad paying the rent, starting as a bank branch manager. A Lapo starts with 15,000 naira (or a 60,000 loan repaid at 12,000 a week for six weeks) in a single room in Mushin or Yaba.

From 6 October 2026 the game expanded beyond Lagos, adding Abuja and Port Harcourt, with flights between cities. There is also a political system: players can spend 50,000 naira to run for governor, and a winner collects a 25,000-per-day allowance and can enact city-wide policies such as a minimum-wage hike.

How to register and start playing (free, no download)

  1. Open the official site lagoslife.app in a full browser — Safari or Chrome on your phone, or any desktop browser. Avoid opening it inside the in-app browsers of Instagram, X or WhatsApp, which can break your login session.
  2. Click Sign up and choose a username of 3–20 characters (lowercase letters, numbers and underscores) plus a password of at least 6–8 characters.
  3. Confirm you are 18 or older — this is required by the game's terms of service, which also allow only one account per person.
  4. Email is optional at sign-up; without one you will not be able to recover your password yourself. Registration does not require email verification, and you can start playing immediately.
  5. Your life begins with the Nepo vs Lapo draw. Use the in-game phone to apply for jobs and side gigs, and always keep enough naira for the Saturday rent.
